Why Self-Defense?
Self-defense is not about becoming aggressive or learning how to fight. It is primarily about awareness, confidence, setting boundaries, and knowing how to respond.
During the course, you will develop practical skills that can help you feel more confident in everyday situations. At the same time, you will learn to listen more closely to your body, your intuition, and your surroundings.
A Safe and Accessible Environment
You don’t need to be strong, athletic, or have any previous martial arts experience. The exercises are adapted to your level, and your personal boundaries are always respected.
The course is taught by female instructors and is specifically designed for women.

Meet the Instructor
Self-defense begins with confidence in yourself.
Alice Wellum helps women develop self-confidence, resilience, and practical self-defense skills. Her classes are accessible, respectful, and focused on strengthening both body and mind.
Alice has practised various martial arts for more than twenty years, including Wu Shu (Kung Fu) and Tai Chi. Since 2014, she has been teaching self-defense to women, combining her years of martial arts experience with insights from recognized personal safety and empowerment programs.
What makes Alice unique is her combination of practical experience and scientific knowledge. Alongside her work as an instructor, she is a researcher and lecturer at Maastricht University, where she specializes in the prevention of sexual violence and empowerment. This expertise forms an important foundation for her classes. She focuses not only on effective self-defense techniques, but also on recognizing potentially risky situations, setting boundaries, non-verbal communication, and building self-confidence.
Alice creates a safe and supportive learning environment where every woman feels welcome, regardless of age, fitness level, or experience. You do not need a martial arts background or to be physically strong. The classes are designed to help you gradually build greater body awareness, mental resilience, and self-confidence.
With Alice’s guidance, you will discover that resilience begins with paying attention to yourself.
